Everything you need to know about using RRHEA
RRHEA (pronounced "rhee-uh") is the world's first dating app designed specifically for people who experience diarrhea and digestive challenges. We believe that shared experiences — even the uncomfortable ones — can be the foundation of genuine connection. Whether you're dealing with IBS, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, food intolerances, or just a famously sensitive gut, you belong here.
Sign up with your email and password, or use Sign in with Apple, Google, or Facebook for quick access. If you sign up with email, we'll send a confirmation message from support@rrhea-app.com — tap the link in that email to verify your address. You'll be signed in automatically and taken straight to Discover. You won't be able to enter the app until your email is confirmed; you can resend the link from the "Check your email" screen. Forgot your password? Use "Forgot password" on the login screen to get a reset link, then set a new password right in the app. Your account is securely managed through Supabase Auth, and your profile data syncs across devices — log in on any iPhone and pick up right where you left off.
Your profile is your first impression. During onboarding you'll fill out your name, username, age, height (chosen from a dropdown picker), gender, and sexual orientation. Next, set your location — either tap "Detect Location" for automatic GPS detection, or enter a city name or zip code and tap "Look up." Use the max distance slider to control how far out your potential matches can be (5–500 miles). Write a bio, choose your severity level on the L0–L7 slider, and select your Gut Tags to flag any specific conditions you have. Finally, upload up to 6 photos; each photo goes through a crop tool before being added to your grid. Tap any photo to set it as your primary (profile) photo, or press and drag photos to reorder them — dropping a photo into the first slot automatically makes it your primary.
RRHEA works in two modes. Dating mode helps you find romantic connections; Friendship mode helps you find platonic friends who get the gut life. Switch anytime from the Mode card on your Profile tab — the Discover tagline updates to match. You only see, and are seen by, people in the same mode you're currently in, so dating and friendship pools stay separate.
Earn a verified ✓ badge so matches know you're really you. On your Profile tab, tap "Verify my photos" and take a quick selfie. The selfie is compared to your profile photo entirely on your device — it is never uploaded or stored — and if it's a match you instantly get the gold checkmark, which appears next to your name on your card, your profile, and the profile detail sheet. If verification fails, make sure your face is clearly visible and matches your primary photo, then try again.
Gut Tags let you highlight the specific digestive conditions that apply to you. Available tags include IBS, Crohn's, Ulcerative Colitis, IBD, Lactose Intolerance, Gluten Intolerance, Celiac, Hemorrhoids, Diarrhea, Constipation, Diarrhea-Constipation, Rrhea, Food Allergies, Bloating, Heartburn, Acid Reflux, GERD, Nausea, SIBO, Low FODMAP, Leaky Gut, and Other. Select as many as apply — they appear on your profile card and help others find common ground before the first message. They also power restaurant suggestions for your dates (see "First Date Ideas").
RRHEA uses an 8-tier severity scale (L0–L7) to help you find someone who truly understands your situation. L0 (Minimal) — barely noticeable, the occasional off day. L1 (Mild) — occasional sensitivity, mostly predictable. L2 (Moderate) — flare-ups a few times a week, bathroom awareness is part of your planning. L3 (Active) — daily management required, you've memorized every restroom on your commute. L4 (Serious) — significant impact on daily life, you navigate the world strategically. L5 (Severe) — constant vigilance, spontaneity requires serious planning. L6 (Extreme) — life-altering daily challenge, you need a partner who understands. L7 (Critical) — every day is a negotiation, you deserve someone who shows up fully. You can filter matches by severity level in the Discover tab.
In the Discover tab, swipe right (or tap Like) to express interest, swipe left (or tap Pass) to pass. Tap Super to make an extra strong impression. Swipe up on a card — or tap anywhere on the photo — to open the full profile detail sheet, where you can browse all photos, read the bio, see Gut Tags, and still Pass or Like from within the sheet. Tap any photo to open it in the full-screen lightbox. When two people both like each other, it's a "Flushed." — you'll see the animated match screen with confetti. Tap "Send Message" to jump straight into the conversation, or "Keep Swiping" to continue discovering.
Use the filter chips at the top of the Discover screen to narrow your matches. Tap a severity level chip to show only that level, tap the distance chip to open the distance modal and set a max range (5–500 miles), or tap the age chip to set a minimum and maximum age. Orientation-based filtering is automatic — RRHEA only shows profiles compatible with your stated sexual orientation. All filters can be combined freely, and clearing a filter chip restores the full pool.
All your mutual likes live in the Matches tab, split into two sub-tabs: "New Matches" (people you've matched with but haven't messaged yet) and "Chats" (active conversations). A badge on the Matches nav button and on the relevant sub-tab shows unread activity. Tap any match row to open the chat. Messages sync in real time through Supabase, so your conversations are always up to date.
Inside a chat you'll see icebreaker prompts at the top — tap any one to send it as your opening message. Use the emoji tray for quick reactions, or tap GIF to open the GIF panel where you can search by keyword or pick from digestive-themed presets. Long-press any message to leave an emoji reaction on it. Tap the "Profile" button in the chat header to view your match's full profile. All messages are stored securely in the cloud and persist across sessions and devices.
Once you've matched, RRHEA can suggest where to meet. Open the chat and tap "First date ideas" (or "First meetup ideas" in Friendship mode) to get three nearby restaurant recommendations chosen to suit both of your Gut Tags and severity levels — for example, gluten-free-friendly spots for Celiac, lighter Mediterranean fare for acid reflux, or allergy-friendly kitchens. Suggestions are centered between both of your locations, and each card shows the rating, price, distance, and why it fits. Tap "Open in Maps" to view a spot, or "Send to chat" to share it with your match. Both people need a location set for the best results — and these are friendly suggestions, not medical advice.
RRHEA Premium ($9.99/month) unlocks exclusive features: Rewind lets you bring back a profile you accidentally passed on — tap the undo button in the upper-left corner of the Discover screen. See Who Likes You reveals all the profiles that have swiped right on you (non-subscribers see blurred previews). Incognito Mode lets you browse without appearing in other people's decks. Subscribe from the Premium tab in the bottom navigation bar.
The RRHEA Shop is accessible from the Discover screen and from Settings. Purchase a Profile Boost ($2.99) to move your profile to the top of the deck for 24 hours — a live countdown timer shows your remaining boost time. Buy 5 Super Likes ($2.99) to make an extra impression on the profiles you're most interested in. All purchases are processed through PayPal, recorded in your account, and persist across devices. You can also browse exclusive RRHEA merchandise through our Shopify store.
Tap the Profile tab, then the settings gear to manage your account. You can update your phone number, email, and password under Account Settings, and toggle push and SMS notifications on or off. Access the Shop for boosts and super likes. Under Account Actions you can Pause your account (hides your profile without deleting any data) or Deactivate your account (permanently clears your profile and all matches). The Help & Support link in Settings brings you here.
Check your active filter chips — a combination of severity level, distance, and age filters may be leaving no matching profiles. Tap an active level chip to deselect it, open the distance modal and widen your range, or open the age modal and broaden the min/max. If no location has been detected, the distance filter cannot calculate ranges — try detecting your location or clearing the distance filter entirely.
GPS detection requires RRHEA to have location permission on your iPhone. If you tapped "Detect Location" and got an error, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services and make sure RRHEA is set to "While Using." Alternatively, type your city name or zip code into the location field and tap "Look up" — this uses OpenStreetMap to find your coordinates without GPS.
Confirm you have an active mutual match before opening chat — you can only message people who have liked you back. If the Send button is unresponsive, tap the message input field to give it focus, type your message, then tap Send. If the problem persists, check your internet connection, then tap the back arrow to return to the Matches tab and re-open the conversation.
The match sound plays when you get a new match. Make sure your iPhone's silent/mute switch is off and your volume is turned up. The sound plays once per match event.
RRHEA supports JPG, PNG, and WebP image formats, up to 6 photos per profile. When you tap an empty slot in the photo grid, you'll be asked to Take a Photo or Choose from Library. After selecting a photo, it goes through a content check and then opens in the crop modal. If you're not seeing the option to pick photos, make sure RRHEA has camera and photo library permissions in your iPhone Settings. In the crop modal, drag to reposition and use the zoom slider to adjust the framing before tapping "Apply Crop."
To reorder your profile photos, press and hold a photo for about half a second until it lifts, then drag it to the desired position. Dropping a photo into the first slot automatically makes it your primary profile photo. If drag isn't working, make sure you're holding long enough before moving your finger.
After editing your profile, tap "Save Changes" at the bottom of the edit screen to apply your updates. Changes to your severity level or orientation will immediately refresh your Discover deck. Your profile is saved both locally and to the cloud via Supabase, so your changes will persist across sessions and devices.
The GIF panel loads images from Giphy's CDN. If GIFs aren't appearing, check your internet connection. Try a different search term or tap one of the preset category buttons. If the panel itself won't open, tap the GIF button in the chat input bar and wait a moment for the panel to animate in.
All purchases (Boosts, Super Likes, and Premium) are recorded in your account and sync across devices. If a purchase isn't reflected after completing payment, close and reopen the app. Make sure you confirmed the purchase when prompted after returning from PayPal. If the issue persists, contact support.
If the app hangs on the RRHEA loading screen, try force-quitting the app and reopening it. If the problem persists, check your internet connection — the app needs to connect to Supabase on startup. As a last resort, delete and reinstall the app (your account data is saved in the cloud and will be restored when you log back in).
Your profile data — including your name, photos, bio, severity level, and preferences — is securely stored in the cloud using Supabase, a trusted open-source backend platform. This allows your data to sync across devices and persist between sessions. Local caching is used for performance, but the cloud database is the source of truth.
RRHEA supports secure account creation with email and password, as well as social login via Apple, Google, and Facebook through Supabase Auth. Passwords are securely hashed and never stored in plain text. You can change your password at any time from Settings. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Account Actions → Deactivate Account.
Photos you upload to RRHEA are processed through a content moderation check on your device before being accepted. Photos are stored in your profile and synced to the cloud so they appear across devices. We recommend using photos that you are comfortable sharing within a dating context and would not mind others seeing if they matched with you.
If you use the GPS detection feature, your coordinates are used to calculate distances to other users and are stored in your profile. If you prefer not to share your GPS location, use the manual city/zip entry instead — this provides approximate coordinates only. Your location is visible to other users only as a city name, never as exact coordinates.
Your digestive severity level and Gut Tags are considered sensitive health data. RRHEA treats this with the utmost discretion. All health-related data is encrypted in transit via HTTPS and stored securely in Supabase with row-level security policies. This data will never be sold or shared with third parties, advertisers, or health insurers.
All purchases are processed through PayPal — RRHEA never sees or stores your payment card details. Purchase records (item type, amount, and date) are stored in your account to ensure your boosts, super likes, and premium subscription persist across devices. Merchandise purchases are handled through our Shopify store.
RRHEA uses the following third-party services: Supabase for authentication, database, and real-time messaging; OpenStreetMap Nominatim API for location geocoding (city/zip lookup); Giphy CDN for GIF content in chat; PayPal for in-app purchases; and Shopify for merchandise sales. No personal information is transmitted in geocoding requests — only a city name or zip code.
RRHEA is built on the premise that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect — especially when sharing something as personal as a health condition. We have zero tolerance for harassment, body shaming, mockery of health conditions, unsolicited explicit content, or any form of discrimination based on race, gender, sexuality, religion, or disability.
All photos uploaded to RRHEA are automatically screened for prohibited content using on-device image analysis before they can be added to your profile. This helps keep the platform safe without compromising your privacy — the check happens entirely on your iPhone.
When chatting with matches, protect yourself by not sharing personal information too quickly. Avoid sharing your home address, workplace, daily routine, or financial information with someone you have just matched with. Take time to get to know someone through conversation before agreeing to meet in person. Trust your instincts — if something feels off, it probably is.
If you decide to meet a RRHEA match in person, always meet in a public place for the first few encounters. Tell a trusted friend or family member where you are going and who you are meeting. Keep your phone charged. Consider sharing your location with someone you trust. Do not feel pressured to meet before you feel comfortable.
If a match sends you inappropriate, threatening, or harassing messages, you can report them by long-pressing their message and tapping "Report." You can also report a profile from their profile card by tapping the menu. All reports are recorded in the database and reviewed. Accounts that accumulate multiple reports will be suspended or permanently banned.
You can block any user at any time. Blocking a user will immediately remove them from your Discover deck and Matches list, and prevent them from seeing your profile or sending you messages. Blocks are recorded in your account and persist across devices.
Living with a chronic digestive condition can be emotionally taxing. RRHEA is designed to be a supportive and understanding space, but it is not a substitute for professional mental health support. If you are struggling with the emotional impact of a digestive illness, please consider speaking with a healthcare provider or a mental health professional. Organizations like the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation (crohnscolitisfoundation.org) and the IBS Network offer additional resources and community support.
If you believe you or someone else is in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services (911 in the US) immediately. For non-emergency safety concerns within the app, contact us at support@rrhea-app.com.
